We are noticing an increase in illegal Ebikes specifically, being ridden by young people in Hedge End North – Hedge End, West End and Botley. We are very concerned about the high speed at which some of these can travel and the very real dangers they pose to both the rider/s and other road users.
I want to reassure you that I have been working to target this problem. I’ve personally called the parents of 7 young people who have been spending time in West End on illegal Ebikes and Escooters, to highlight my concerns about the above and on the whole parents / guardians have been very supportive of the police.
Parents / Guardians – Have you or your child bought an Escooter? Have you or your child bought a conversion, or modification kit for a ‘normal’ pedal cycle? Are you aware many of these are illegal? Have you bought your child an illegal Sur-Ron type bike? Are you aware that some young people when in groups, are sharing these vehicles amongst the group and riding them with passengers. Many are being ridden at high speed with no helmet. Please see the info in the photos, and please do the right thing to keep your child safe and on the right side of the law.
